Description

Regions of US

Key Questions

  • How do geographic tools help people to read maps?
  • What regions in the United States share common physical geographic characteristics?
  • What regions in the United States are defined by political boundaries?
  • What is characteristic of the landscape of the different physical geographic regions in the United States?
  • What geographic factors influence where people live and where people do not live?
  • Where do most people in the United States live?
  • What is similar about the locations of state capitals in the United States?

Expected Outcomes

begin their study of U.S. history by examining the geographic patterns of the United States today. An understanding of those patterns along with having a mental map of the United States facilitates the students’ study of the history of the United States and the processes that have brought about those patterns, such as the process of migration.
