Engineering in general is a career for problem solvers.  Engineers tackle the world's problems and develop solutions by working together to first understand the cause of the problem and explore possible solutions.  Almost every problem covers more than one engineering discipline and each engineer has to be very good at communicating with other engineers and willing to work together.  Magnet engineering is not a specific degree but it falls under electrical engineering.  Understanding how magnets interact with other materials and with electricity helps us to do many of the things that are around you every day.

Magnet materials are extremely diverse and each combination of materials gives us magnets that able to help solve a problem.  At SuperMagnetMan we work with hundreds of industries ranging from oil well drilling to underwater submersibles, jewelry design, magic tricks, biomedical devices, electric motors, energy production, toys and games, and a wide array of inventors who have an idea that uses a magnet.  We have to work with every kind of person you can imagine from a housewife with an idea for a purse with magnets in the handles to medical devices that will be implanted that are operated outside the body through a magnetic coupling.  While this is very challenging it is also incredibly exciting to hear the challenge and try to think of the best solution.

Expected Outcomes

First and most important is to learn that engineering is exciting and worth the hard work that it takes to achieve it. 

Secondly, engineering is like a football team - each engineer is very good at what they do but they have to work well with other engineers and specialists to succeed.  Today it is quite common for engineering teams to span the globe working on one problem. 

Third, magnets are a key part of so many of the devices around us every day and all of the devices started with an idea about using magnets to do something and a team of people worked together to develop it.
